Until recently, we believed that magic was present everywhere, with strength in certain areas moreso than others due to historical events drawing magical energy to these places. Recent discoveries have shown that not to be true.

Due to the actions of Sorcerer Epharim Vexx, a Point of Power has been destroyed, and this has led to the discovery of what we now refer to as ley lines. The Points of Power, areas of strong magical energy, have been located in the past, but until now we did not realise that from each of these Points of Power were webs of energy that carried that power to the rest of the surrounding world. As a result, the Ley Lines connected to the Point of Power in Athens has been destroyed, leading to a loss of magical essence in the area.

Beyond this, all we know is theoretical. However, it appears Epharim Vexx, or others associated with his cause, have been trying to affect other Points of Power around the globe, infusing them with energy rather than destroying them. While this is indeed better than seeing these points erased, it has resulted in the sightings of magical beings and creatures that we have not seen before, and races who had previously not made themselves known to the Magi have chosen to bring their existence to our attention. While the reasons for these changes are not certain, researchers believe that tampering with Points of Power is dangerous and highly discouraged.

As it stands, current Magical Theory is this:

Magical energy primarily spawns from specific areas of high magical resonance, referred to as Points of Power. Whereas it was previously believed that power simply radiated from that point, we have now discovered the presence of lines and webs of energy, named Ley Lines, that branch out from each Point of Power. These infuse crystals, flora and fauna with magical essence, and fuel the abilities of Magi and other magical creatures to allow them to cast magic and, in some cases, continue to exist.

Proximity to a Ley Line increases the likelihood of increased magical creature activity, the presence of magical plants and flowers, and more potent rituals.
