The art of Duelling applies to both magical and non-magical combat. It is the art of offensive duelling, of using your skills to cause physical harm as well as forcing your opponent into disadvantageous scenarios via magical effects.

 

Duelling is seen as a useful skill for Magi to learn not just because of the combat and self-defence element, but also because there are some magical items that can only be effectively wielded by those with the motor skills of a Duellist.

Much study has gone into the duelling arts to discover how wielding both a foci and a weapon can be best balanced to create a Duellist who is powerful both magically and physically. As such, it tends to be only the Duellist who is able to successfully use magics designed to cause damage.
