Divination
Divination is a difficult subject, as it requires a certain degree of natural gift to be able to use it. We aim to take our First Year students into these lessons and determine whether they possess this gift and, if so, then allow them to continue the subject into their Second Year. It is an imprecise art, with many predictions and visions being misinterpreted, or the actions of others causing these predictions to never come true... but one cannot deny that the ability is very real, and extremely useful.

At The Flamel Academy, we teach the following divining arts:
- Cartomancy
We hold a vast number of tarot cards, each created and imbued by accomplished Diviners. We will cycle these through the students until they find a deck that appears to resonate with them and, with further testing, see if they are accurately able to use the cards to divine information.
- Lithomancy
This old and imprecise art is, nevertheless, one of the most common methods of divination. We pair our students with magically imbued crystals and stones that resonate with their own magical energies, and teach them how to cast, interpret, and sense through them.
- Scrying
One of the oldest and most effective methods of divining, enabling the student to see images or feel emotions through their connection to magic via a crystal ball or pool of water as their focus. It is often very easy to tell if a student possesses this ability, as those who do are able to almost instantly see shadowy movements within the crystal ball or pool after mere minutes of being sat with it. We then train them to gain more definition to these images.
- Psychography
As it is a more recent discovery, we are still developing methods of detecting psychographic skill in our students. However, it appears that some students do possess the gift of being able to drop themselves into a trancelike state and connect more directly with the magical forces around us, and transfer their thoughts and feelings onto paper while in this state.

- Clairsentience
This skill cannot be taught, and appears to be rare, though our Divination Master possesses such a skill and is well trained in aiding students in interpreting what they see as well as guide them in ways to harness and hone this ability. Clairsentient students are able to see the future in their own mind's eye, though it is hard to intentionally trigger such a skill.

- Sciomancy
A new discovery, and a surprisingly effective method of divination. We are able to teach our Divination students how to summon a ghost, whose perception of magical energies is vastly different to our own, and enable the two to communicate to see if the student is able to determine anything about the past, present or future through the senses of this ghost-guide. This art is still imprecise, though our student body has been excellent in aiding us in progressing the research into this field of Divination.
