Types of Magi
One of the moments all Magi will recall is one referred to as Awakening. This is the awakening of magical ability in an individual, as it appears even in magical bloodlines that it always takes some time to manifest.
There are three types of individual that can occur in Magi bloodlines:
Progeny
Any Magi whose ancestry can be determined even in vague forms is referred to as a Progeny. Most Magi are considered as a Progeny, in part because many display the traits or appearances that come with their heritage. It can sometimes be difficult to determine the bloodline of a Progeny if their family has not traced it since it's inception, or if the family shows no physical signs of their heritage, and so many Progeny Heritage Experts take pride in their ability to trace bloodlines back through the generations.

Aberrant
An Aberrant was once believed to be a Magi who appeared to possess no prior magical ancestry, but it has since been discovered that such a thing is not possible. An Aberrant is now a term used to refer to one who cannot identify their magical ancestry and yet still possesses magical ability. Here at The Flamel Academy, we do not judge people based on their ancestry, and welcome Aberrant students and staff just as willingly as we accept Progeny individuals.

Eschewed
A rare occurrence where an individual from a Magi bloodline never shows signs of magical control, and yet is still able to see through the concealment magics that hide most magical creatures from the sight of Norms. Until the early 1900s, Eschewed used to be cast out from Magi society, but have since been accepted as productive members of the community as part of the Eschewed Acceptance Act of 1904.
