To try and create a game where there are plenty of unique characters with a wide variety of skill sets, we've endeavoured to create a rather extensive character creation system. As such, there is a fair bit of reading below! Please take your time, and do not rush with your character creation.

Character Creation

Step One: Ancestry

If you can phys rep it, you can play it. The world that we are playing in allows for any fantastical race you wish to play with very few caveats. Your Ancestry Is Not Unique - Your ancestry cannot be the Only Version of that type in the world. Should you wish to play an Orc, you have full reign on what the Orcs are like from your slice of the world, but that doesn’t determine what all Orcs in the world are. You can believe all Orcs came from a Giant Crystal in the Earth and that might be true, or true for just you. You’ll find out in play how those other cultures work and may be able to theorise how they fit and their root cause. You Are Not Alone - You should not try to be the Last of your Kind or similar, or any theme that could restrict other players where possible. You can be the Last of your Kind that you are aware of, and it can be exciting to finally meet someone like you from a different part of the world. Low Tech, High Fantasy - We would prefer to keep things fantastical for this setting and edge away from Robots, Aliens, or similar vibes. Do Not Assume Your Legendary Attribute! - It’s easy to plan ahead and assume that just because you’ve chosen a certain fantasy race, you’ll receive a certain kind of Legendary Attribute to go with it. However, this is not the case, as we are trying to create a system where all Legendary Attributes are unique. For example, in the case of werecreatures-type characters, it is more likely that we will re-flavour these choices so we have a lot of people with the ability to transform into beasts at will (akin to ‘shifters’), and only one person will have ‘the were curse’ where they cannot control their transformation under specific conditions. With that in mind, please write your character and background around the personality and history of the character rather than the skills they possess, unless you are willing to potentially re-write after receiving your Legendary Attribute.

Step TWO: NATION

You have four options when it comes to picking a Nation.

STEP THREE: CLASS

There are two Base Classes to choose from that make up the core of your character and give you access to their specific archetypes. Fighter or Spellcaster.

Step Four: Archetype

Each class has five Archetypes to choose from. These give you access to different abilities but are not intended to restrict the flavour you bring to your character.

Step Five: Skills

In addition to the skills and abilities you gain from the above choices, you have free reign on three additional Open Skills to help flesh out your character and can choose from the below. Some skills may be chosen multiple times for alternative options.

Step Six: Legendary

This world is full of magic and discoveries to be uncovered, even with the people that you adventure alongside. Every character will receive a unique skill relevant to their skill set and backgrounds, as determined by the game team. You will receive notification of this skill in advance of the next event you are attending. This skill will be wholly unique to you, and no two players in the party will share the same “Legendary Attribute”.

Regarding Character Progression

There is no XP system in UFL, and the stats that you choose at the start of the game are the ones your character will always have for the first Arc of UFL. However, it is possible to advance your character in weird ways through play and experimentation. Nothing comes without a price, and we don't reward winning... we reward great storytelling. This game is all about collaborative storytelling and if you do great things with your character that add to the world, even at the cost of your character's life, you will likely find that action rewarded.
